Photoshop Tutorial : How to convert a photo into a Humanoid - Part1

Hey Guys
you heard of a robot ?! , of course you did
but what about a humanoid ???
well , I hope you did And if you didnt then search for it
I really recommend browsing "How to make a splashed milk Typography "

But before you do, here are some results , its very great tutorial

But before I begin ,this is part 1 just to show you how it starts , just the basic lines
next I will ilustrate how to be expert on making a humanoid
so Here are the step s

  1. add guide lines to the object
  2. make the lines straight enough to work with
  3. adding depth of field to represent the breaks
  4. finalizing
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1 :

open the shape you wanna work with
then grab the brush with low diameter and 50 % Opacity
then make lines so as to make the groove look like generally.

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 2 :

With pen tool you will need to make lines more straight , more accurate
and in the suitable places so , lower your brush size a little so as to make it suitable like the pics.
then with 100 % opacity draw the lines , the grooves you like
as the pic shows.

Now remember to make step 1 in a layer and step 2 with another layer
so we will now hide the first layer
and.... do you see that circle in his chest ??.. you can draw one be choosing shape tool
you can draw circles where ever there could be a joint or in the place that suits you
But here I didnt make it there cause it is still  advanced

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 3 :

Now hide the layer that represent the guid lines and select the original man photo then ....
from Filter >> Blur >> Surface blur

Make sure the value of each Radius and threshold are approximatly equal and small

Then we will add the depth of field to the lines
so we have two ways , only one could be enough .

First way : choose the dodge tool and change its mood to highlight
the by pressing , hover over the edges of the guid lines to highlight it
But remember to choose only one direction south , north , east , west anything.

Then by choosing the burn tool and by pressing hover over the same edges but with the opposite direction to make it darker.
that was the first way and the better but the hardest way , it takes a lot of experience to work with it
cause it takes you to hole new levels of quality,

so if you dont wanna this , there is the easiest way

ــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــ

Second way :  duplicate the guide lines layer
and with 1 layer make drop shadow from blending options with a more darker color than the
skin color , which here I choosed the brown color with fixed direction
and make sure that the shadow does not exceed 2-3 times the guide lines thickness

the with the second layer make a drop shadow but with a lighter color than the skin color and
with the " opposite " Dirction with 2-3 times the guidw lines thicknes .

Note : when changing the direction of the shadow , if the first layers shadows direction reverse , then take that layer to a new image and make what ever you with it then grabe it back to the original file

First Picture Represents  the first technique

Second Picture represnts the second technique
but also I added the Highlights and the burn to it

The only thing left now is the background
you can add any background you want
So Im gonna add a random background , and change the color lookup to " drop blue "

and here that final answer to " How to convert a photo into a Humanoid " Part1 - Basics
