Photoshop Tutorial : Design a Background made of Wood from Scratch

Design a Wood Background From Scratch
Hey ,
 ok
How a bout designing your own wood background
not just a texture or a pattern you get from internet , I mean " Designing your wood background " from scratch !.

well My previous tutorial about  designing Folder icon  was really good
so I decided to make another tutorial for another Design

How to design a wood Background !!
well you need wood and a lot of wood how is that ??!!.

Ok , first check the final result as below :

As you can see . there is alot of wood in the Pic

but to design it we are going to design a small part , very small part of it and repeat it all over to flood the background

So to design it here is the Steps

Step 1 : Creating the + Part
Step 2 : Creating the other parts and merge the two parts together .
Step 3 : selecting and defining as a pattern
Step 4 : addinf the pattern as a background and some effects .

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step1 :  Creating the  + Part

first of all make anew layer
then write with type tool the Symbol " + " .
Then duplicate it

rasterize the two layers , then :
                                                  - the original one fill it with a brown color .
                                                  - the duplicated layer , fill it with black color.

After that select the black layer then CTRL+ Click on its thumbnail  to select it
then from  Filter >> Render >> Fibers , use the values that is suitable for you .
Like below .

Then with keeping selection on, make a motion Blur Effect .
 Filter >> Blur >> Motion Blur :
                                                 - Angle     = 90
                                                 - Distance = 50
Or what is suitable for you .
And the following Pic illustrates that

Now add these Blending Options to the brown layer :
  - Bevel and Emboss      -Inner Shadow

And here is the Result For Step 1 :

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 2 :  Making other Parts for the Pattern

Now we are going to make 4 Rectangles around the symbol
Well , Press CTRL+R to show ruler then generate guide lines around the  +  like below

that will give me 4 areas
now select one of them also like below then create new layer , put it in separated group
then duplicate it
                             - first layer will be brown
                             - second which is upper will be filled with black

               as Below

Again generate Fibers as before , the fibers will vertical
I wanted it to be horizontal so with free transform rotate the rectangle 90 degrees then resize it to fit to the previous shape
then make a motion blur filter as before but with 0 degrees  .

Now repeat that part 3 more times
that gives us 4 parts around the + Symbol.

Then merge them to make 1 layer includes them all .
and add the following Blend Options .

Now make guide lines to represent the position of the nails like below
then make 8 circles with about  5-7 px  around the + Sympole and fill them with a Grey color .

then make thses blend options for them but after you put them in a new layer

The final result for step 1 & 2 will be as follows :

 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 3 : Defining the Pattern

Now select the whole shape as below and rasterize the whole layer then put them all in one group
then right click and choose merge group
that would make the shape as only one layer

By keeping the selection on
or you could reselect it again
the from Edit >> choose define Pattern

Then to choose the Pattern tool
first choose Paint Bucket Tool or Press G

then from the upper menu choose instead of foreground >> choose Pattern
Now select the pattern we just made then fill the background .

and here is the Result :

 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 4 : adding some effects

I placed a circle like below , fill it with a yellow color then changed the layer blend mood to over lay .

Here i moved the circle a bit tothe left then CTRL+Shift+I to inverse the selection Then added a black color
and changed its blend mood to soft light

I changed some values in the " brightness & Contrast " . like below
then added a new layer with a small circle with white Color and changed its blend mood to soft light .

Also I placed a texture to it and changed its blend to Soft Light .

And here is the result

Move up and see what you have done.
Hope you like it .
